Dr. Óli Páll Geirsson Returns to Smart Data

Dr. Óli Páll Geirsson has been appointed the Chief Data Science Officer at Smart Data, a ten-person software company based in Reykjavik. Óli Páll has also returned to the ownership team of Smart Data, having been one of the company’s founders in 2020. Smart Data develops software solutions that enable businesses to leverage artificial intelligence and data science to boost sales, service, and daily operations. The company’s flagship product is the AI system Context Suite, and since its inception, it has been working on a variety of AI solutions.

An Easy Decision

“I couldn’t resist the temptation to rejoin Smart Data at this point, as I am already very familiar with both the company’s operations and solutions. I’ve been fortunate to lead the development of several data science teams in the industry over the past few years, helping to foster a data-driven culture at every organization. The goal has always been the same: to strengthen the organisation’s ability to make decisions using innovative analytics tools and solutions. This experience will certainly be valuable at Smart Data,” says Óli Páll.

 

A Data-Driven Career

Óli Páll most recently led the data science team at Lucinity, tasked with developing AI models and methods to help financial institutions make data-driven and effective decisions in the fight against money laundering. He previously worked as the Chief Data Officer for the City of Reykjavik’s service and innovation division, where he built and led the Data Services Office to support data-driven decision-making within the city and create value from its data. He also served on the executive team and the digital transformation management team at the city. Before that, Óli Páll was a data science expert at Landsbankinn. He holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of Iceland and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the same institution. Alongside his previous roles, Óli Páll has worked as an adjunct professor in Statistics at the University of Iceland.
